Wholesale jitters take toll on HBOS

Concerns about HBOS’s exposure to wholesale funding prompted a 22 per cent decline in its share price Tuesday, following an 18 per cent fall on Monday.

Jitters in the wholesale market, intensified by the collapse of Lehman, have particularly affected HBOS because of its reliance on wholesale funding even though it has a retail deposit base of £258bn, accounting for 55 per cent of its funding.
