Philips suffers €59m net first-quarter loss

Philips warned that it could see no economic improvement in the second quarter after a decline in demand for the Dutch group’s lighting, healthcare and consumer products dragged it to a first quarter loss.

The fall in demand, which hit all of Philips’s divisions, including its more defensive healthcare arm, was shrugged off by investors on Tuesday. The shares closed 3.3 per cent higher at €12.63.
