Drugs groups accused on prices

The chairman of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, the medical watchdog, has accused pharmaceutical companies of overcharging for drugs to boost their share price.

In an interview with The Observer, Sir Michael Rawlins said companies could make drugs for the National Health Service more cheaply. He claimed executives had no interest in making cheaper drugs because their annual bonuses depended on producing earnings growth.
