More Versace for the mainland

Donatella Versace has discovered China. The platinum blonde fashion icon and creative director of the eponymous fashion house, which was founded by her late brother Gianni, swept through Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong in a whirlwind tour touted by the company as a “historic first”.

Ms Versace, who had not previously visited what is potentially her biggest market, was in the region to announce an €8m ($10m), nine-store expansion in China, Hong Kong and Macao by the end of next year. The company currently has only five wholly owned outlets in the country, including three in Hong Kong and one lonely outpost each in Beijing and Shanghai.
