US handgun demand fuels global trade

Rising demand for handguns from US civilians is fuelling the flourishing legal trade in firearms worldwide, a new study said on Thursday.

Authorised global trade in small arms and light weapons jumped by more than a quarter between 2000 and 2006 to about $1.6bn, according to the latest analysis by the Small Arms Survey.
