ZFS profits up in spite of flood claims

Zurich Financial Services, one of the world’s biggest insurers, raised net profits by a third in the first half, untroubled by big claims for floods in Europe.

The group, which traditionally does not issue earnings forecasts, said it expected continuing efficiency improvements would bring benefits of $700m after tax in 2007.
