Embattled dollar sinks to new trough

The dollar fell to its lowest level since August 2008 after comments from Ben Bernanke, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, only sparked a brief respite.

During afternoon trade in New York, on a trade-weighted basis the dollar slipped 0.9 per cent to 74.68, a new low for more than a year.
