Safety concerns over GSK diabetes drug

An interim analysis of a crucial safety study on GlaxoSmithKline’s embattled diabetes drug Avandia did not allay concerns about its heart risks leaving the UK drugmaker’s second-biggest drug under pressure.

The results, published on Tuesday in the New England Journal of Medicine, set the stage for Wednesday’s congressional hearing that will again focus on US drug regulators’ safety regime.
