Economic fundamentals suggest that the South Korean won – the second worst performing Asian currency this year – has been oversold, according to Jamie Dannhauser, economist at Lombard Street Research.

Mr Dannhauser says several near-term factors are behind the recent sell-off, including the move by the country’s current account into deficit in the fourth quarter of 2007 and the unwinding of hedges in the shipping industry.
