Pakistan’s key opposition leader Nawaz Sharif on Friday won a major legal victory, paving the way for him to take part in parliamentary elections.
In a landmark judgement, Pakistan’s supreme court acquitted Mr Sharif of a controversial charge of ordering the hijacking of a plane carrying Pervez Musharraf, just hours before the former president led a military coup in 1999 which toppled Mr Sharif as prime minister.
