Pandit warns against nationalising banks

Vikram Pandit, Citigroup’s chief executive, on Tuesday warned that nationalising one of the troubled US banks would force the government to take over the entire sector, leading to a radical overhaul of the global financial system.

Citi’s recent troubles and sharp share price fall have prompted speculation that the US government, which already owns preferred shares and warrants to buy common shares in the bank, could nationalise it.
