Crisis wreaks havoc on shares

Share prices plunged around the world on Friday as the scale of the damage wreaked on Europe’s economies by the global bank crisis became clear.

Eurozone private sector output contracted in October for a fifth consecutive month and at the fastest rate for more than 10 years, purchasing managers’ indices showed. UK third-quarter gross domestic product fell much more than expected, suggesting it too had plunged into recession.
