Sprint Nextel plans $5bn 4G expansion

Sprint Nextelhas said it now expects to spend about $5bn building an expanded nationwide 4G wireless broadband network based on the WiMax technology standard.

The third largest US mobile carrier plans to market services based on the new network under the name Xohm and expects them to generate between $2bn and $2.5bn in revenues for the fiscal year 2010, with more than 80 per cent coming from new lines of business.
