Britain is to become a test bed for a pioneering new approach to managing border security and tracking terrorists, part of the increasing push by hard-pressed defence groups into the lucrative homeland security market.

Raytheon, the US defence company, is the lead contractor on the e-borders programme, an ambitious project that will log the details of everybody moving into and out of Britain. The programme is on track to roll out later this year.
