Taiwan awaits fallout from bankruptcy law

Banks in Taiwan are braced for the fallout from new personal bankruptcy legislation, which, they say, could encourage debtors not to meet repayment obligations.

The consumer debt clearance bill passed on Friday will allow borrowers with less than T$12m ($360,000, €270,000, £185,000) in unsecured consumer debt to turn to the courts to renegotiate.
