UN calls for crackdown on cybercrime

The world is ill-prepared to deal with a growing wave of cybercrime that could become as pervasive as drugs and people-trafficking, the UN’s top law official has said.

Antonio Maria Costa, executive director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, said a new international agreement was needed to deal with identity theft, counterfeiting and paedophilia, which had all become easier as border controls weakened and internet trade grew.
