Waste Management eyes rival

Waste Management, the largest waste disposal company in the US, yesterday made an unsolicited $6.19bn offer to take over Republic Services, the third largest.

The all-cash bid is aimed at derailing Republic's $6.07bn all-stock deal to buy Allied Waste, the second largest US garbage clearance company, agreed at the end of last month.
