British Sky Broadcasting, the satellite television operator, on Monday confirmed it was seeking to launch a pared down version of its pay-TV, broadband and telephone services under a new brand, to be called Picnic.

Sky is planning to make three of its most sought-after subscription channels available via a TV aerial rather than a satellite dish. Sky Sports 1, Sky Movies and Sky One would be available on an adapted Freeview digital TV set top box.
