BofA to raise $10bn in capital

Bank of America, the largest US bank, said on Monday it would raise $10bn in capital and halve its dividend in an effort to ride out the credit crisis.

The moves came as the bank reported third quarter earnings of $1.2bn – a third of the level of a year ago. Ken Lewis, Bank of America chief executive, said it was “prudent to raise capital to very substantial levels in this uncertain environment.
