Consumer confidence in Britain slipped this month to its lowest level since last December as a series of interest rate hikes from the Bank of England have begun to take a bite out of sentiment.
GfK Martin Hamblin said its monthly barometer of British consumer sentiment tumbled to -5 from -3 in July, an eight month low. Four of the five main subcomponents of the index fell, although the gauges of Britons’ personal finances were mostly stable in August.
