UK to claim Antarctic seabed

Britain is preparing to claim sovereign rights over a vast swath of seabed off Antarctica that could be rich in oil and natural gas, in a step officials described as "safeguarding for the future".

Diplomats are planning to make submissions to the United Nations laying claim to more than 386,000 square miles of seabed stretching about 350 miles into the Southern Ocean.
