Consolidation of the British mobile phone industry will give wireless operators a better chance to persuade customers to spend more by buying handsets with internet access, according to the head of Orange UK.

But Tom Alexander said consolidation should not lead to higher prices for mobile phone calls. “Absolutely not,” he insisted.
