Giorgio Armani and Gucci are the world’s most coveted designer brands with nearly one in three respondents saying they would buy them if money was no object. The reality is different as most designer brands in most countries are bought by only a small fraction of the population. Among the major industrialised countries (G7), Italians are most likely to buy designer labels. In contrast, the French, Canadians and Americans are about half as likely.
