The US banking industry has warned regulators that creation of a Wal-Mart bank would inevitably lead to the retail giant expanding into mainstream financial services.

The American Banking Association and a range of other bank groups appeared on Monday before the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to voice opposition to Wal-Mart’s bid to open a state industrial bank in Utah.
