UK economic growth slowest for 12 years

The UK economy grew at its slowest annual rate for 12 years in the second quarter as manufacturing output once again declined, plunging the ailing sector into recession.

Official data released on Friday showed that British gross domestic product grew 0.4 per cent in the three months to June. That was the same as in the first quarter and the fourth quarter in a row in which economic growth was below its long-running trend rate.
