Nato to reduce Kosovo contingent by 4,000

Nato defence ministers have taken the first step towards a drastic reduction in the alliance’s troop deployment in Kosovo.

They agreed on Thursday to reduce the force in the newly independent state from 14,000 troops to 10,000, and there are expectations in Nato headquarters that numbers could be cut to 2,500 over the next two years, leaving little more than a deterrent force.
