Race industry relief as trial collapses

The collapse of the trial into the alleged fixing of horse races by former champion jockey Kieren Fallon and five others yesterday relieved the racing industry but left the principal defendant furious that the case had ever come to court.

An Old Bailey jury was directed by Mr Justice Forbes to acquit Mr Fallon, two fellow jockeys and three other men of conspiracy to defraud customers of Betfair, the betting exchange.
