Business body ‘unlikely’ to consider CGT

Gordon Brown’s flagship business council, designed to ensure employers’ voices are heard at the heart of government, is “unlikely” to consider the prime minister’s controversial capital gains tax changes, the FT has learned.

The news prompted an angry backlash from leading employers’ bodies, who will on Wednesday use meetings with John Hutton and Stephen Timms, the business secretary and competitiveness minister, to highlight members’ anger over the pre-Budget report tax change.
