Blair’s role as envoy gets cold reception

Tony Blair was confirmed as an envoy for the Middle East hours after stepping down as Britain’s prime minister on Wednesday. But before the post was confirmed Germany said it was dissatisfied with how he was chosen and Russia indicated reservations.

Mr Blair’s role will be to represent the US, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations. The Quartet is working for a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict but has made little progress.
