China: An opening door but challenges remain

Direct foreign investment continues to pour into China. With more and more of the world’s multinationals looking to build up operations in the fast-growing economy, foreign direct investment (FDI) rose to $72.4bn last year.

After a number of disastrous investments in the 1990s, foreign companies are also starting to make regular and reasonable profits in China.
