Japan murder case shows justice errors

It was a moment of the sort Toshikazu Sugaya could only dream of for the 17 years he spent in prison as a convicted murderer.

Before him stood the chief of police for Japan's eastern Tochigi prefecture, bowing deeply and asking humbly for forgiveness as photographers recorded the scene for the front pages of the nation’s evening newspapers.
