Annuities are not the answer, says fund body

People are better off not being forced into buying conventional annuities when they reach retirement age, according to the European Fund and Asset Management Association.

A new report* claims the best investment strategy is to hold a significant part of pension assets in equities early in retirement and to switch to bonds and annuities over a period of time. It says forcing people to buy an annuity at or shortly after retirement is costly for them.
