Private equity outsider that’s in step with Wall Street

General Atlantic, a midsize private equity group based in the leafy, ultra-rich suburb of Greenwich, Connecticut, recently made its mark on Wall Street by placing astute bets on the electronification and consolidation of exchanges.

An early investment in Archipelago proved timely when the US group was acquired by the NYSE and used as a vehicle for the Big Board’s stock market listing.
