It would be hard to imagine a more disparate group of companies. What is it, after all, that unites a meat packing company, an IT services group, a palm oil producer and a supplier of radios to the world’s emergency services?

One simple answer, of course, is that their shares have admirably out-performed the main market of the London Stock Exchange, where all four listed last year.
