Japan: Service keeps clients loyal

When a petrol-tank explosion forced Nippon Steel to close a big mill in central Japan in 2003, the impact was felt well beyond the world’s second-biggest steelmaker.

Toyota, the carmaker that is Nippon Steel’s top customer, curbed production at more than a dozen factories for two weeks as it ran short of materials, delaying delivery of 7,000 vehicles.
