Brussels' plan to cap the extortionate "roaming" charges imposed by telecoms companies on people making calls overseas has provoked a predictable backlash from some quarters.

The loudest opponents of the price cap used to be Britain, France and Germany, but they all seem to have gone rather quiet. Perhaps the popularity of the move with consumers has something to do with that.
