S Africa unions lose court fight over Vodacom

A South African court ruled late Sunday night that Vodacom, South Africa's largest mobile phone operator, could proceed with a stock market listing after throwing out a last-minute bid by trades unions to block the deal.

The court's decision was a relief for Vodafone, the UK mobile operator, which owns half of Vodacom in a joint venture with Telkom, South Africa's leading fixed-line phone company.
