AT&T profits jump by 30%

AT&T, the largest US telecommunications group, shrugged off investor concerns about the impact of a weakening economy to report a 30 per cent increase in second quarter profits as persistent strong growth in its mobile phone network unit offset the loss of nearly 1m traditional fixed-line residential customers.

The Dallas-based company said it was on track to reach 1m customers for its IPTV video service by year-end.
