GE’s $8.1bn deal for Abbott unit collapses

Abbott Laboratories’ $8.13bn sale of its blood and assay diagnostics units to General Electric collapsed on Wednesday after the two US groups failed to resolve complex issues over the transition of the businesses.

Abbott, the drug and medical device group, said the companies “mutually agreed” to terminate the sale of its core laboratory and doctors’s office diagnostics that tests for and monitors disease from blood and other samples.
