Sustainability has been a key concern for development banks for many years as they have a mandate to help to improve society and well-functioning institutions in the areas in which they lend money.

For Lars Thunell, executive vice-president at the International Finance Corporation, extending this sense of the importance of environmental and social sustainability to the rest of the financial world has been the crucial next step.
