Manufacturing confidence falls sharply, says CBI

Confidence in the manufacturing sector suffered its sharpest fall in 28 years with both domestic and overseas orders hit hard by the global slowdown, according to the CBI employers' group.

The CBI's quarterly industrial trends survey found that manufacturers expected a fall in production of 1.2 per cent in the third quarter, followed by an even sharper decline of 1.8 per cent in the final quarter of 2008.
