Optimism grows over UK Vauxhall plants

Vauxhall, the British division of GM, can look forward to a healthy future because its plants are among the most efficient in Europe, UK government officials said on Tuesday night.

Lord Mandelson, business secretary, was said to have been “surprised” over news that GM would not after all sell Vauxhall, which employs 5,500 staff at Ellesmere Port and Luton.
