American Airlines to review bonus strategy

American Airlines on Wednesday pledged to review its executive compensation strategy amid widespread employee discontent over plans that could see its top managers receive more than $70m in cash bonuses this year.

The loss-making carrier’s largest unions this week filed a grievance claim over pay-outs due under a plan agreed by the airline’s board in 2003 and tied to American’s stock performance through to the end of last year.
