Canon launches €1.3bn bid for rival Océ

Canon on Monday launched a €1.32bn ($1.97bn) takeover offer for Océ, the Dutch printer and copier maker, seizing a technologically respected but small and financially weak rival. The move shows the ambition of office equipment makers to enter the market for professional printing.

The acquisition would be one of the largest to date by a Japanese company in continental Europe amid signs of a gradual recovery in mergers and acquisitions activity.
