Serbia's chance

The result of Sunday's Serbian election is a welcome chance for the European Union to try once more to engage with Belgrade in the hope of building real peace in the former Yugoslavia.

The gains made by president Boris Tadic's centre-left Democratic party, the strongest EU-oriented force, are smaller than he expected - but they are an opportunity for progress to reducing Serbia's international isolation.
