Publishers seek to play Google at its own game

Publishers are racing to digitise their books as they seek to counter the threat posed by the internet giant Google.

Like music companies before them, publishing companies are responding on two fronts: trying to neutralise the challenge to their traditional business model, while at the same time profiting from its possibilities.
