Djibouti shows depth of port ambitions

Off the east African port of Djibouti in the Gulf of Aden, a long line of vessels sits patiently at anchor.

They are waiting for a free berth alongside the port’s bulk-handling quays, where hundreds of workers load and unload vast quantities of cement, sugar and even live camels.
