Steve Ballmer, the Microsoft chief executive, referred to Windows as a “lynchpin” and said it would “remain at the centre of people’s solar system”. But he also described the PC as just one of the screens users care about – along with mobile phones and TVs.
He was annnouncing the public beta trial version of Windows 7, Microsoft’s latest operating system, in his first keynote at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
