Banks take steam out of tiring markets

Financial markets showed signs of fatigue on Tuesday following the previous session’s strong gains as investors digested a welter of economic releases and refocused on the outlook for the banking sector.

Asian equity markets bore the brunt of concerns about Chinese banks raising funds to meet capital requirements, with the Shanghai Composite index sliding 3.5 per cent, its worst one-day decline for nearly three months.
