ANC rifts over Zuma's downfall stymie labour-market reforms

The African National Congress has shelved controversial labour-market reform proposals after a national meeting that exposed deep tensions in South Africa's ruling party.

President Thabo Mbeki's orthodox economic policies and assertive style of ruling came under implicit attack at the four-day meeting as many delegates rallied around Jacob Zuma, whom he dismissed as deputy president last month amid corruption allegations.
